Olivia Bonilla is an east coast painter and sculptor born in Vermont in 1992. She has a studio practice out of Old Saybrook CT. Bonilla received her BFA in painting, with a fascination with sculpture, from Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts a College of fine Arts. She’s currently represented by contemporary art venue, Miller Gallery in SC. Nostalgia as a human condition, explored through childhood memorabilia. I explore sentimental kitsch and personal nostalgia through references to sweets, toy culture, and animal portrature. My sculptures explore the feeling of indulgence and emotional desire. Through pushing conceptual ideas and working with traditional methodology. Oozing cupcakes are juxtaposed with squirming dogs whose exposed bellies reveal the childhood colors of cotton candy blue and bubble gum pink.
