Artist Profile

Joy Floyd

Medium: Collage - Found materials

Description:  Framed collage focusing on found papers and other scraps

Bio: Born and educated in North Carolina, I attended rural public schools and graduated from Greensboro College, a small women's college. After graduation, I taught young women in a mission school in Brazil for three years. Returning home, I was married and my husband and I had three children. We made our home in Connecticut cities for over 40 years where we raised our family. My husband worked in church and community services and I worked as a librarian. My interest in collage developed during this time largely through activities with my children and some art education courses at Southern Connecticut State University. I have been a working artist for over 25 years now maintaining a studio at Arbor Arts Center, 56 Arbor Street in Hartford and in my home at 400 Seabury Drive, Apt 3106 in Bloomfield. My work is abstract, using discarded pieces of cloth, wood, metal, paper, leather, glass etc. The work on this exhibit is a new venture concentrating on all sorts of scrap papers - packing papers, empty boxes, ads, sandpaper, cards, egg cartons and other odds and ends.
