Description: Works on/of paper filled with the beauty, simplicity & quietude of nature
My artistic practice is part of my overall spiritual path. In integration with yoga, tai chi, and meditation, my artwork is an outward, physical expression and communication of inner, subjective experience. I want my work to be intimate, purposely unsettled and imperfect, invoking association, resonance, sensuousness and metaphor to create poetic images and objects. I combine digital photography, printmaking, ink, and encaustic with textile sensibilities and techniques to make books, quilts, installations, and wall pieces. These tend to occur in series and I am interested in repetition in both conception and process as a way to bring meditation practice into the studio. I have over two decades of experience creating and exhibiting work in New England including shows and projects in Hartford, New Haven, Newport, and Boston. I have work in several corporate and private collections, most recently the permanent collection of The Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan. I have a degree from Syracuse University’s College of Visual & Performing Arts and also attended Cranbrook Academy of Arts. I live in Bolton, CT and maintain a studio in the Arbor Arts Center in Hartford. I have been practicing Tai Chi, Qi Gong and Zen Yoga for over 25 years. I received an Individual Artist Fellowship from the Greater Hartford Arts Council in 2008, a Creation of New Work Initiative Grant from the Edward C. and Ann T. Roberts Foundation, Inc in 2012, and an Artist Resource Trust Fellowship in 2017.
