Medium: Watercolor, pen and ink
Description: Lively, vibrant watercolor paintings inspired by tattoo art, kitsch and retro
Alana's work is stylistically composed of graphic, sketch-like line work. Embracing the marks her hand chooses to make, she doesn’t fight the imperfect strokes or accidental flicks of paint. Her pieces play with concepts of texture, transparency and overlay. She works in pen and ink and watercolor and finishes with Photoshop. She also experiments with printmaking. Aesthetically, she is inspired by mid-century modern architecture and aesthetic, neo-traditional tattoo art, and kitsch. Her work addresses American youth culture of past and present, pop culture and femininity.
