Dyshann and Team Aquastone Venue 2018

In 2018, Aquastone celebrated its Shared Space by hosting a Pop-up featuring Graphic Tees and Prints. 

Aquastone Graphic Arts and Print is pleased to announce a premiere graphic design show of student internship work in collaboration with Dyshann Anderson from Aquastone Graphic Arts & Print located in Hartford, Connecticut’s Design District.  Twelve digital art works created from photo portraits and following specific themes in fine art, music and modern actors, were on display at 1477 Park Street, Hartford CT.

MCC Cooperative education is an academic  program that assists students with placement into both paid and unpaid work   experiences that are directly   related to their area of study and for which they can   earn three academic credits. Students   who participate in this program get work   experience, make contacts and get references in their profession, and many are offered long term employment at the end of their work experience obligation.

About the show
“The Iceberg Portraits” are inspired by the “theory of omission” a turn of phrase used to describe Ernest  Hemmingway’s unique style of journalistic writing in the novel form. As a young journalist, Hemingway had to focus his newspaper reports on immediate events, with very little context or interpretation. When he became a writer of short stories, he retained this minimalistic style, focusing on surface elements without explicitly discussing underlying themes. Hemingway believed the deeper meaning of a story should not be evident on the surface, but should shine through implicitly. Critics such as Jackson Benson claim that the “iceberg theory,” along with Hemingway's distinctive clarity of style, functioned to distance himself from the characters he created.

Dyshann Anderson experimented with the minimalist technique in illustration and design for three years working with clients at Aquastone Graphic Arts & Print. Minimalism was the best suitable style to break back into the fine art industry for Dyshann because of the overwhelming time commitment for Aquastone clients. 

Sarah Beth Norris and Maria Shaer, current students of Graphic Design at Manchester Community College, decided to take on the Aquastone Internship Program for the 2018 summer and developed their skill level over 150 dedicated hours.  With this design show, we intend to inspire and challenge graphic art students statewide to rethink graphic design techniques to bring awareness to the possibilities in art, advertising and design.
