Paws That Draw - Rescue Dog Pup Art
Description: Unique, one of a kind, interpretive, acrylic, art pieces made by rescue dogs!
Paws That Draw - Rescue Dog Pup Art, was created as a way for us to help shelter dogs from the South. Many dogs need medical treatment and regular vetting in order to find their furever homes here in the Northeast. One sick dog can cost in the thousands before their loving home can be found. This year, Molly and her two pups were rescued from a kill shelter in NC. Her pups were fine and found amazing homes. Molly was heartworm positive. She had to have a lot of medical treatments in order to kill the heartworms that were infecting her heart. So far, her medical bills have gone over $1600. Her last HW test, this month, still showed she had adult heartworms. She will need to go back again for another test in two months to see if this last time there is no evidence of any heartworms. Each antigen test is about $150. Once she is HW free, she will be spayed and the rescue, Minnie and Moes Pups, will find her the best home. As a still life, award winning, photographer many years ago, I have found myself taking photos of DOGS for the past 30 years. This seemed like a good segue to making a difference. Having a good eye for color, this project was born 4 years ago! Our work is a combination of colors and textures. Many times we take our inspiration from the nature around us. One piece might take 5 or more days to complete. Not every piece is a keeper! Hey, we are dealing with dogs afterall! It is imaginative, fun art that goes to the heart of the lost dogs in the south. We use our resident artists, as well as visiting artists, and foster dogs! We beg and borrow a lot of pups from local rescues for their paws, tails and any other part they want to paint with. Our oldest resident dog, Bruiser Cocker, went to the Rainbow Bridge in January. He was 14 and suffered from Cancer. His sister Maxie Cocker, also 14, can be found on a canvas or two. We lost another artists in March, Minnie Cocker. Minnie was a rescue from CACC in Harlem and she had a wonderful life with her Mom, Rena and sister Catherine, also a Bru sister. We have new, young, upcoming artists, Harley, a Carolina dog from SC and Suzu,a Carolina dog from WV! We have Beanie, Euli, Tussie and Gage. We have Arlo MoeMoe and Evie. We have Hazie who is 14.5 and Charlotte who is 4! Our artists come in all sizez, colors and NOT ALL want to pain! I call them the DIVA DOGS. Well, and other things to on occasion! Life goes on, and our "dogs" come and go, but with this effort a few more have been saved!
