I create art about things that confuse and confound me. 

Amy Hufnagel is an artist, educator, public historian and curator. She is a past Program Director for the New York State Alliance for Arts Education in Albany and the Senior Officer of Education at the New York Foundation for the Arts in NYC. She has also taught American cultural history, art history and photography and video studio classes at Syracuse University and Cazenovia College. She has served as the Director of the Alice Austen House Museum in Staten Island, and worked on dozens of start up and artist based projects.

Hufnagel joined the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center in Hartford, CT as the Director of Programs & Visitor Services in 2019, and formally served as the Vice President of Interpretation & Engagement at OLANA in the Hudson Valley, NY. Hufnagel makes art about things that confuse her, and those topics often land around technology, communication, consumerism, systems of power, gender, and labor. This series is part of a project she developed while completing a residency at Alfred University and threads a number of these ideas into interconnected constellations. Hufnagel's art and writing have appeared in Technology Review and at the Anthropology Museum at the University of California, as well as a number of online exhibition settings including Trickhouse and UnderAcademy.

She often collaborated with husband Christopher Funkhouser including performances at Brown University and Sarah Lawerence College to name a few. Her work has been exhibited in numerous non-profit, academic, and commercial venues and recently published in Girls in Trees: Writers and Photographers Explore the Collision of Nature and Girlhood published by Instar Lodge and organized by writer Rebecca Godfrey in 2017.
