Normand is a retired insurance executive and self-taught amateur photographer. His experience in photography began with film in the 1980’s and moving into the digital photography format has enhanced the creative element. Now able to print his own photographs, the editing process has enabled Normand to better synchronize the view-through-the-lens with the finished product. His subject matter is diverse, but is devoted mostly to New England scenes, especially landscapes and seascapes. Lighthouses, barns and covered bridges attract the most attention. Using lighting, shadows, composition and shot angle, the purpose behind each photo is to capture the essence of the subject, whether this requires the use of color, or black and white. Recent awards include: second place in the landscapes category for “Covered Bridge Graffiti” in the Lyme Land Trust Photo Contest; and the cover photo for the South County (RI) Health 2017 calendar competition. His photos have been selected twice for the first award in photography at the annual Manchester Art Association show. Recent exhibits and shows include: the Arts Center East (Vernon); The Spectrum Gallery (Centerbrook); the National Arts Program (Capital Community College-Hartford); The Connecticut Audubon Society (Glastonbury); Imagine Main Street and Art in the Park (Manchester); Open Studio (Hartford); the Autumn Arts Festival (Madison); the Narragansett Art Festival (RI); The Essex Summer Art Festival; Glastonbury’s On the Green art show and selection for the virtual online gallery of The Voice of Art.
He resides in Manchester with his wife and two spoiled cats.
