My art is informed by my culture and my childhood in Georgia. I find art and beauty in people, places, and objects that are usually regarded as commonplace or unworthy of notice, regard, or respect. I aim to elevate these subjects as beautiful forms that are worth contemplating. Currently, I am also exploring what life in the United States means for young Black girls. My work in this area explores the rooting of self in this society, the American beauty standard, and the wisdom, strength, and beauty we receive from our ancestors.
My art is in the home of private collectors as well as The West Hartford Library Foundation. I am a member of the West Hartford Artists Emporium. I have also enjoyed the privilege of exhibiting my paintings in juried art shows. I currently work from my home studio in West Hartford, creating my art using watercolor, ink, gouache, and sometimes colored pencils and wax pastels. My palette preference is for bright, saturated, high-key colors.
