?????? Colorful Expressions from a Vivid Imagination ???
Mixed media art using paper, fabric, acrylics, found objects, etc.
Born in Connecticut to parents who indulged artful wishes of paints, inks, dyes, plaster and every other means to create, my family exposed me to nature, people, architecture & the arts, all influencing my work to this day. With a combination of formal training and self taught methods, I’ve had professional successes with painted furniture & accessories, art quilts, wearable art, jewelry design, as well as cooking and baking. A fertile mind rarely devoid of inspiration, my philosophy is simply: ‘Start!’. Entertaining each flight of fancy would be overwhelmingly impossible, but none at all possible without a beginning. Taming a wild imagination to see visions through to fruition is a real and enjoyable way of life. But a start is the only way to the underlying hope of producing a finished, sharable art piece. Embracing tangents often leads to new and compelling pathways and, more often, stunning outcomes.
“Mixed media on canvas has been my focus for the past three years. It allows the freedom of paint with the texture and enrichment of inks, decoupage, original & borrowed photography, kirigami, fabrics, silks, yarns, glass beads and ephemera brought together to produce fascinating, color-rich canvases. My most recent collection, Portals and Passageways, has been influenced by architecture and travel, light and shadow. Real, surreal and with straight up fantasticality, this collection allows viewers to travel and discover fanciful and compelling places. Primarily using acrylics, inks, photos, papers, I am currently exploring sewing through papers, photos, films, ephemera, etc. as a means to connect or simply enhance. Sandwiching and slashing fabric to expose scraps and hidden, found objects. Incorporating reeds, sticks, pods, and other bits of nature’s gifts.
Experiencing peoples reactions to seeing something new and different makes my soul soar! When they want to touch, or say they keep looking for more surprises, I feel as if they are seeing my vision as imagined at inception. A rewarding, visceral connection is formed spurring me to explore my creative ideas daily in the studio.”
