Functional and sculptural works incorporating handwoven cloth

Sophia De Jesus-Sabella is an artist, weaver, and educator based in Hartford, CT. Her woven and sculptural works interrogate class, gender, queerness, and utility by combining traditional handweaving with found construction materials.

Ms De Jesus-Sabella graduated with Departmental Honors in Fibers in 2019 from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. She has been an Artist in Residence at ACRE Projects, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts and Hartford Artisans Weaving Center with a forthcoming residency at Byrdcliffe. She has received grants from New England Foundation for the Arts and Assets For Artists, and her work has been featured in Boston Hassle, warp + weft magazine and Decorating Dissidence.
