Kristi W. Colbert is a Leverett, Massachusetts-based mixed media artist specializing in painted paper collage. Made from bits of recycled junk mail colored with gouache, pencil, and neocolor crayon, Kristi’s work evokes a palpable sense of place, as transportive landscapes, seascapes, and cityscapes emerge from paper scraps. In both its process and aesthetic, the work celebrates duality. It is painterly and sculptural; deconstructive and reconstructive; realistic and abstract; intricate and unfussy. It is a record of the places Kristi has lived and traveled, and a map to what lies ahead. And, situated in a time of such global heartbreak and destruction, Kristi's work offers an energetic manifestation of and hopefulness for repair - gluing together pieces of a broken world and reminding us all of the beauty that surrounds us.
