As an abstract artist I interpret what I see in the most basic elements of form and color. The driving force in my work is the exploration of color and composition. My work is modern and bold conveying both an ecstatic energy while exuding a sense of calm and serenity. Itten, the Bauhaus color theorist stated “the end and aim of all artistic endeavor is liberation of the spiritual essence of form and color and its release from imprisonment in the world of objects.” I am inspired by Piet Mondrian’s use of color and graphic abstraction and the color fields of Rothko bursting with possibility. Powerful changes occur when a simple element such as a line or shape is altered. Creating with intention and spontaneity I am focused on conveying a sense of rhythm coinciding with order and balance. With intuition guiding me I free myself from the constraints of reason and rely on my inner rhythm to achieve balance. As I begin, I am enticed by the transformation of a blank slate. With every layer, the paintings grow as I contemplate the balance before me. Each piece is a challenge and presents a problem to solve. I feel energized by this task. Continuity in each of my series exists while each piece maintains its individuality. Color variation and subtle texture are paramount and add to the visual interest and vibrancy of my work. With a consistent philosophy I work on interconnected series. My Trees series and my graphic Abstract Series, maintain a relationship using color and shape as a connecting element.
Born in 1970, raised in a household saturated with art, drawing on the art studio walls was encouraged. After earning a Masters in Social Work and living in Manhattan I studied at the Art Students League of New York, the country’s oldest independent art school, and had access to stunning art museums and galleries for inspiration. While in NYC I painted the New York City Marathon mural finish line artwork in Central Park for several years . Today my paintings can be seen in gallery and juried exhibitions, corporate and private collections and even on craft beer cans. I have also dedicated myself to the New Britain Museum of American Art as I have served as Chair of the Art Party of the Year gala for the past several years
