The Adornment Series-Images of Empowerment will surely uplift. Imagery here will highlight people of African descent with their best attributes. I will use the vehicle of portraiture and combine ceramics with many varied materials on canvas to create positive autobiographical depictions. The stories these portraits will tell is an example of shifting negative impressions of falsely written history by highlighting the outstanding characteristics of persons of African descent.

Armed with the belief that one person can make a difference, I have set out on a visual crusade to change the outcome of how my people view themselves. I cannot sit back and do nothing as I learn about the tragedies my people went through and continue to suffer. Through my art, I can visually change perceptions on how people of African descent should be viewed and treated. Understanding intimately the tragic condition of the African story helps build a greater knowledge base for understanding other races and their personal challenges.

This concept will lead to the acceptance and honoring of all people. My laser focus is African, but my love is for all people. Uplifting my people; elevating them to the status of a viable world citizen gives them proper standing of being represented fully, just as any other race has the luxury of being celebrated. We are to be respected, honored and celebrated just the same.
