Tao LaBossiere (1968–2024) was an illustrator, muralist, sculptor, and painter known for blending playfulness with depth. His whimsical pun illustrations, recently collected in the book "Tao LaBossiere Illustrated Punny Word Play – Selected Works," feature his love of humor, wordplay, and thoughtful observation with intricate illustrations. Alongside his fine art and illustration, Tao created iconic public works in Hartford, including The Oneness of Being in Still Waters (the turtle mural), Bee the Change at The 224 EcoSpace, and the White Oak Leaf Throne in Bushnell Park. For over two decades, Tao lived and worked at Hartford ArtSpace, where he co-directed the gallery with his wife, Amy, and supported countless artists through mentorship and community engagement.
His legacy continues through his public art, punny illustrations, and the Tao LaBossiere Artist Fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, dedicated to supporting other artists.
