I grew up with art in every corner. My Uncle Fred was an extremely talented sculptor, he knew he was an artist from his childhood and went to Cooper Union for schooling. My upbringing home was surrounded with voluptuous granite women and later, smooth and silky marble sculpture that I still long for the rest of the world to view.
My Mom painted and her oil paintings hung on every wall. No one ever said I should try or I was creative or that I too am an artist. It wasn’t like the talent poured from me but I found my desire to create outweighed my difficulty in opening up to my creative side. I photographed flowers everywhere they appeared, and started painting about 28 years ago, when I was living in Maine. The beauty of Mount Desert Island made it all so easy, the colors were exhilarating, the shapes of the rocks and mountains and ocean made my brushes just do whatever they wanted. Three years ago I began classes in abstract acrylic painting and continue to study the process, colors, shapes, values, composition.

The journey continues, my studio at 222 56 Arbor Street (the arts building that houses Real Art Ways) is a dream world that I enter as often as possible and I create collage as a warm up and paint and paint and paint. Let go and live, my guiding motto. I still am squinting into the light to open up the channel more and more so that I can fly in my dreams and in my painting.
