I create artworks on bristol board with oil crayons and rags, lots of rags. they are essentially rubbed into being.

Who was I
When I did what I did?
All those fat lines and thin
Layers of pigment
Soft-rubbed edges
Color on color
Shape and function
All took doing,
So I did it
And the doing was good.

Robert Fort lives in an antique oysterman’s cottage on a rock high above the Farm River near New Haven, CT. He kayaks two miles of shifting habitat from his home on the marsh edge to open Sound in search of birds and beasts to photograph. The tide, the run of the current, the wind on the water and the natural motion of the earth combine to create a portrait hunter’s studio. He approaches travel and discovery with the same intensity. He seldom comes home without a catch. He translates these photos into oil drawings. The naïve quality of the work befits the joy he takes in making it. Read more about Robert here.
