I’m a self taught artist from southern United States. I doodled and painted as a child but never had art lessons. After a 15 year career in biomedical research and teaching, I chose to become a stay at home mom to my young children. While I missed the intellectual stimulation from work, I began to experiment with paints and charcoal. I learned about color and the importance of value in making paintings come alive. I read books and watched videos to educate myself. Dabbling first in watercolors and pastels, I learned how to paint realistically. However, I was drawn to the French Impressionistic painters and having visited Claude Monet’s home in Giverny, France, my love of landscapes and particularly colorful abstract landscapes, was born. My inspiration is drawn from travels around the United States and Europe. I often dream about my paintings before I start. I utilize my inner feelings, meditation and mark making to begin the process of painting. When I begin to paint, I do not know where my work will take me. It often takes many layers before I am satisfied that my feelings have been released onto the canvas.

My paintings are a reflection of my feelings of joy, sadness and aloneness that I often experience. It is through painting that I have finally found my true passion. I am living proof that it is never too late to start something new.
