John Kempczynski started oil painting, a second career, in 1984 at the West Hartford Art League and attended Paier College of Art during the evenings. After painting with oils and then oil monotypes, in 2005, he started exclusively painting with pastels. He has completed commissions using pen and ink and recently has started working in watercolor. Color and design have always been a major focus in his work. He believes that every square inch of the image needs to stand on its own as well as work as a whole.
